A LITTLE GUIDANCE
Character, Word & Byte Counter guide
Compare text length using several counting methods.
How to use
- Type or paste the text you want to measure.
- Compare character counts with and without whitespace and the word count.
- Check line count and UTF-8 bytes, then revise the text if needed.
Worked example
- Input
- Enter abc def with no line break.
- Result
- The result is 7 characters, 6 without whitespace, 2 words, 1 line and 7 UTF-8 bytes.
Common questions
How are emoji counted?
Characters are counted as visible grapheme clusters, so an emoji made from several code points can count as one character.
Will the count match every other service?
Not necessarily. This tool uses grapheme clusters, whitespace-separated words and UTF-8 bytes. Check the destination service's own counting rules.
